About Darrin Thaves:<\/b><\/div>\n

Darrin Thaves is currently Instructor of Flute at California State University, Long Beach and <\/em>P<\/em>rincipal <\/em>F<\/em>lute with the Northwest Sinfonietta. <\/em>He is an <\/em>honors graduate of the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a <\/em>Dean\u2019s<\/em> List Graduate of California State University of Long Beach with a Masters in Flute Performance<\/em>. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>The winner of many competitions, including <\/em>National Flute Association Convention Performers Competition<\/em> and <\/em>Seattle Ladies Music Club Young Artist Competition<\/em>, Darrin has <\/em>appear<\/em>ed<\/em> as a featured artist with 2nd City Chamber Music Series, P.U.M.A Series, and the Tacoma Art Museum Chamber Music Series, <\/em>and <\/em>concertos with the CSULB Symphonic Band, Tacoma Community College Chamber Orchestra, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Lake Union Civic Orchestra, <\/em>World Harp Congress, <\/em>and multiple times with the Northwest Sinfonietta.<\/em><\/p>\n

Darrin <\/em>has been a Flute Instructor at CSULB for 26 years and <\/em>maintains a large private studio in Long Beach<\/em>. As an adjudicator, <\/em>he has judged for Seattle Ladies Music Club Young Artist Competition<\/em> Orange County Musical Arts, Junior Bach Festival, CSULB Middle School Flute Competition, MTAC Western Regionals, CBDA High School Honor Group Auditions, SCSBOA High School and Middle School All-Southern Honor Group Auditions, National Flute Association Collegiate Flute Choir Competition, Seattle Flute Society Horsfall Competition, NFA Flute Choir Competition, and the NFA High School Flute Choir Competition.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>He is <\/em>the founder and <\/em>director<\/em> of the Pacific Flute Ensemble<\/em>. Darrin has led the ensemble through <\/em>twenty-<\/em>five<\/em> seasons <\/em>of concerts in Long Beach, <\/em>f<\/em>ive<\/em> featured recital performances at NFA Conventions<\/em> and eight commissions. <\/em>Mr. Thaves <\/em>has conducted the National High School Flute Choir <\/em>and is the past Flute Choir Coordinator <\/em>and High School Soloist Coordinator <\/em>for the NFA.<\/em> As a conductor, he has <\/em>led<\/em> the National High School Flute Choir<\/em>,<\/em> Flute Choir Sight-reading Sessions at two National Conventions and two Los Angeles Flute Guild <\/em>Festivals. Darrin proudly conducted the National LGBTQIA+ Flute Ensemble at the 2024 NFA Convention and performances in 2025 at the National Portrait Gallery and the Library of Congress.<\/em><\/p>\n
